NID DAT 2026 Prelims Date Announced: BDes and MDes Course Registration Opens

In order to gain admission to several undergraduate and graduate design programs at NID campuses throughout India, interested applicants can now apply online for the entrance exam.

A written exam that assesses candidates' creativity, visualisation, and problem-solving methodology makes up the preliminary round. The shortlisted candidates for the mains, which consists of personal interview and studio test, are for those candidates who make it through the preliminary round.

The official schedule that was made public states the DAT Prelims 2026 would take place on December 21, 2025.

Steps to Apply:

Step 1: Visit admissions.nid.edu, the official NID admissions website.

Step 2: To get login credentials, new users must first register an account.

Step 3: After logging in, fill out the application by providing all the necessary academic and personal information.

Step 4: Scan and upload the required files and documents, such as your signature, photo, and other papers.

Step 5: Use one the available online payment options to pay the application fee.

Step 6: Once you have reviewed all the information, submit the application.

Step 7: Download the form, and also take a printout of the same for further reference.

 

What happens after you apply — The Selection Stages

1. DAT Prelims (online or at a specified centre): basic screening – the 2026 preliminary date is December 21, 2025.

2. Shortlisting: NID selects applicants for the Mains, usually a number of open seats. The booklet contains the criteria and details.

3. DAT Mains: portfolio/interview rounds, studio tests; some may be conducted in person. The format (Studio Sensitivity Test, etc.) is explained in the guidebook.

4. Counselling and final allocation are determined by the sum of the scores and preferences.
